Washington State Legislature Resolves Medicaid ED Visit Issue

On March 30, 2012 Governor Chris Gregoire halted the Washington State Health Care Authority's (HCA) proposed plan that would have denied hospitals payment of emergency department visits by Medicaid patients that were deemed and urged the Washington State Legislature to address the issue with a balanced budget approach. The compromised reached was through an amendment to the budget proposed by Rep. Eileen Cody (D-West Seattle) and incorporated the implementation of best practices suggested by the Washington Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (WA-ACEP), Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) and the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA). The Washington State Coumcil of ENA supports this proposal to protect access to care for Medicaid patients.

WA-ENA is the Washington State Council of the Emergency Nurses Association. We are a not-for-profit organization and are the professional organization for emergency nurses dedicated to quality patient care, public safety, continuing education, nursing research and promotion of the nursing profession. It is comprised of a membership of over 1,100 nurses residing in Washington State. Each member has an opportunity to become involved in WA-ENA to help define the future of emergency nursing and emergency care through advocacy, expertise, innovation, and leadership.
